Sustainable French cuisine & a grill at Café Panache

BOOK NOWFor many people ‘West is Best’ and they feel there is absolutely no reason to leave their district during the weekend. If you ask them why, they would probably come up with something about how Amsterdam-West is lively, still has some rough edges and a flamboyant and diverse resident base that gives colour to their neighbourhood. Maybe, if they were only allowed to use one word, that word would be… “Panache!”
Since 2015, Panache has been the quintessential Amsterdam-West for me. This big restaurant and bar is located just off the famous Ten Kate market and the building even used to be a storage for that same market. Some good friends came together, spotted the location and decided to be the front runners in this area. A decision that definitely needed some panache and with that, the space’s new name and vision were found.
Being near a market, the menu is (of course) market-focused and consists of seasonal ingredients accompanied by sustainable meat, fish and other goods. The approach to food is simple: great ingredients prepared well (and 9 out of 10 times they’ll be cooked on the charcoal grill – the eye-catcher in the open kitchen). Panache classics are dishes like veal T-bone with chimichurri, whole seabass with a lemon vinaigrette or the always wonderful sole á la meunière (served with butter, lemon and capers, of course). The last classic on the menu is the Côte de boeuf of 700 grams, so bring a friend. And that was the bridge we wanted to make…

Panache is a perfect location to go with friends. Yes, on a Friday night, you can keep counting the (first) dates going on and yes, they will 100% have a fun evening but we feel this location is made for friends, and friends of friends and so on. A night at Panache is a true night out. The dimmed lights, the nice music, the big bar serving cocktail after cocktail.
The people of the West might not be eager to leave their hood on a Friday, and Panache certainly is a reason for the rest of Amsterdam to invade their territory.
