The pinnacle of cool! That is how I would describe Europizza, located in the north of Amsterdam. And to answer that burning question, no, they don’t serve pineapple on their pizza! Nor are they exactly a traditional pizzeria. Still following along?

What makes Europizza so wildly popular is something of a question mark to me. But don’t get me wrong; I love being here and I LOVE eating here. It’s just hard to put my finger on what its X-factor is… Maybe it’s as simple as that; people love its vibe and great food. Undeniably, the food is exceptionally tasty. From their pizzas, which are indeed served, to the delightful finger-food snacks that keep you coming back for more, every dish is a delight. Their impressive selection of natural wines perfectly complements the food, and the staff members are not only great but also possess an undeniable coolness and good looks. When you combine all these elements with the remarkable yet slightly off-the-beaten-path location, you arrive at the epitome of coolness.

The story of Europizza traces back to restaurant Europa, situated at ‘Het Hem,’ a hub for contemporary culture, particularly art, just outside of Amsterdam in Zaandam. Despite the chilly evening, we cherished every moment spent there. This intimate establishment, with a seating capacity of 26 (remember that number), showcased their culinary prowess by cooking over an open fire. However, when the pandemic struck, the owners needed a survival strategy. Their ingenious solution was to bake pizzas over the open fire, freeze them, and offer them for sale to be prepared at home. The outcome? A resounding success! After the pandemic, they established Europizza at its current location in Amsterdam-Noord, where they continued to sell both fresh and frozen pizzas while consistently impressing their customers. I am particularly fond of stories like these, and Europizza takes such narratives to another level of excellence.

If it wasn’t already apparent, Europizza is undeniably a success, making the comeback of restaurant Europa only a matter of time. Right next door to Europizza, you can now find restaurant Europa, which opened a few weeks ago. This cosy 26-seat establishment serves a fixed tasting menu, reminiscent of the good old days in Zaandam. And just one door down, you’ll discover Benelux Bar, a delightful spot for aperitivos, snacks, and dancing.

Although we haven’t had the opportunity to visit either of these establishments yet, we eagerly anticipate the arrival of our New Balance x ALD sneakers, as they will provide us with the confidence to embark on these culinary adventures. Rest assured, it’s a promise we intend to keep.
