Serving up Nikkei cuisine & a soulful nightclub at Soulkitchen
By Seger Abels
Amstelstraat 30, 1017 DA Amsterdam, Netherlands
BOOK NOWIn the nineties, it was a classic discotheque. Nowadays, it’s a restaurant. Back then, its name was ‘Soulkitchen’. Today, it’s still called…Soulkitchen. With the current owners’ heritage in and love for dance music, the name is more than fitting.
Soulkitchen is a restaurant, cocktail bar, and club all rolled into one. Located in the lively, touristy heart of the city, the building has a rich history. During the nineties, the dance scene in Amsterdam was at its peak. Clubs like the RoXY and iT were the places to be, and smaller clubs like Soulkitchen thrived. The current owners respect this history and have transformed Soulkitchen into much more than just another restaurant. As the day turns into night, amazing DJs start spinning soulful tunes, creating the perfect setting for guests to continue their night on the dance floor.

The kitchen is led by head chef Alessandro Ledda, who was inspired by diverse cuisines during his travels. However, it was the fusion of Japanese and Peruvian flavours, known as Nikkei cuisine, that truly captured his attention. For chef Ledda, the harmony between these two culinary traditions spoke to his soul and ignited a true passion. At Soulkitchen, they bring together the freshest and boldest flavours of the two countries, mastering many trades—from the art of sushi to perfecting ceviche and tiraditos. Every day around 10 PM, Soulkitchen undergoes a magical transformation from restaurant to lively club, a moment we absolutely loved. It’s pure luxury to already be at the place to be after dinner. The volume rises, the beats intensify, and the sound system is truly something else, especially for a restaurant.
The food is very tasty, and all the bites on the menu scream ‘Pick me, pick me’. Soulkitchen aims to be an ‘un-Amsterdam’ restaurant, taking inspiration from places like Ibiza. While prices might seem a bit steep at times (although justifiable), at Soulkitchen, it’s not about the prices; it’s all about the experience. The ambience is truly special, and everyone in the room feels it. People do their best to look their best and have a good time. If you’re not in the mood for dinner (or your wallet doesn’t allow it), no worries—feel free to relax with a cocktail and still have the night of your life (cue Celine Dion).
