Mossel & Gin: as the name suggests

BOOK NOWMussels and gin.
That’s it.
That’s the review.
I mean, it could be. That’s almost the extent of the menu in this vibey, energetic restaurant hidden deep inside Westerpark. It’s bustling and noisy in the best possible way, with everyone packed around small tables. But to write it off as mussels and gin would not really be doing this place justice.
Don’t get me wrong. There are mussels. Lots of them. And there’s gin too. But there is enough nuance here to make sure that you leave, already planning your return. The mussels, for example, have a choice of sauce for you to pick from, once they have been (perfectly) steamed. Keep it classic, or choose something more indulgent like a rich truffle interpretation. If you’re into spices, roasted chipotle and/or Thai versions have got you covered.

The gin lineup is pretty crazy too. You can work your way through cocktails that include garnishes like elderflower, rosewater, cinnamon quills, grapefruit segments and even sliced mango. Honestly, they are putting most things into gin at this place. Don’t be surprised if they end up serving a mussel inside the gin. Now there’s an idea.
There’s variations on the menu, with items like calamari, empanadas and croquettes but, let’s face it…this place is about the mussels. And they flex them expertly here. (Apologies).
