Hotel restaurants for me can mean two things. The first is when the hotel guests come first and therefore the restaurant needs to please everyone. On those menus, you will find a hamburger, next to a pasta bolo, next to a steak pepper sauce. When this is not the case and the restaurant guests come first, the addition of the hotel means there is always something going on and there is a lot of buzz. The restaurant benefits from the hotel, and in turn, you will too. The Lobby Fizeau belongs in the second category.

The restaurant is spacious with a nice lounge/lobby area and a separate bar. At The Lobby Fizeau you can go in for a quick bite or, if you’ve got time for a truly phenomenal dining experience, sit down to a voluptuous six-course dinner that lasts the whole night. Being a hotel restaurant (my last mention of this fact, I promise) means that The Lobby Fizeau is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even a late-night bar menu. So there’s always something going on. In all honesty, I’ve never had their breakfast, so let’s talk lunch. The lunch menu houses specific lunch-only items that can’t be found during the dinner service (hello duck confit burger!), but some of the more evening dishes can also already be found on the lunch menu (hello whole lobster!). I really like this idea and find it cool that The Lobby Fizeau takes lunch so seriously. Lunch is the new dinner as many are already claiming.

That being said, the dinner menu is also special – a French base with worldly influences. Looking at the current menu I spot nduja, harissa, sambai, ajo blanco and tandoori yoghurt – a whirlwind of eclectic, well-delivered global influences here! What makes The Lobby Fizeau so great is that you can choose your meal based on how you’re feeling at that very moment, from something more comforting like a nice piece of côte de boeuf with fries and lettuce to dishes that serve the experimental in us all such as their pearl barley with red beet, nameko mushroom tempura and miso butter.

At The Lobby Fizeau, they are proud of their wines and have over 50 options that are served by the glass, something that is much appreciated by myself and their guests. The total number of different wines is around 600, of which many are affordable (< €60).
