Great wines & bar food at Bottleshop.

BOOK NOWListen up, fellow Amsterdammers! You know that less-than-pretty Wibautstraat? Well, a new building has popped up dividing the neighbourhood into two camps. Camp one believes that this new kid on the block only made things less pleasing, and camp two – well, they believe the Thonik building with a facade inspired by Mexcellent, a typeface designed for the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico) to be an architectural gem. One thing I think we can all agree on is that Bottleshop, housed on the ground floor, is shaking Witbautstraat up, in a good way.
This kick-ass natural wine bar knows what’s up. Their wine list is only by the bottle, but don’t worry, they still have plenty of wines by the glass, you just need to tell the staff what you like and they’ll hook you up. With Sec Wines as their importer, you know the selection is top-notch and unique.

The food is inspired by Japanese bar food. You can totally order enough to make a full dinner, but I suggest you go for a few glasses of wine and try a few dishes. Sashimi is sashimi but their combo of tuna, salmon & cherry blossoms is next level. Not better though than the smoked eel on brioche with thinly sliced daikon… that’s a good combo. If you’re lucky enough to visit during white asparagus season, try the spears with white soy, egg, and prune. Served with optional lardo, a great touch. Vegetarians could opt out of the lardo and also try the cheese and sake pairing or the Tomato, avocado & seaweed. Winners!
The design and ambience match the food; minimalistic and Japanese/Scandinavian-inspired and a good foil for the loud black and white exterior. Don’t let the slick design intimidate you, though. The owners and staff are ever-welcoming and happy to show you a great dining experience.
Insider info: Keep a close eye on their events! A vinyl DJ set brings the vibes to host the best natural winemakers who travel from abroad to host dinners in the space. These events almost always end up with the chairs pushed to the side on the side and the hands (filled with glasses) in the air. Our kind of place!
